Dengue Prevention, surveillance and control
Mundo Sano trains health agents in Mburucuyá, Corrientes
On March 29 and 30, health agents, volunteer firefighters and members of regional institutions devoted to dengue prevention welcomed the “Training Course on Aedes Aegypti Surveillance and Control” organized by National Park Mburucuyá, Fundación Mundo Sano and The Pan American Health Organization.
For two days, more than 40 participants were part of a theoretical-practical course in charge of Biologist Manuel Espinosa, who is a member of the Program and Project Department at Mundo Sano.
This course—which had the auspices of the Municipality, Provincial Hospital San Antonio and the Integral Community Center of Mburucuyá—was the first held in that city in Corrientes, although Mundo Sano has been developing these trainign projects in different communities like Clorinda, in Formosa, and Tartagal in Salta.
During the first session, some of the theoretical aspects of the issue that were addressed were generalities on the mosquito life cycle and physiognomy, means of propagation of the disease and design of surveillance and control actions.
The second session was a practical class that included inspections to dwellings for sample collection and data recording. On this occasion, specimens were identified, data was analyzed and vulnerable area maps were elaborated. At the end of the training session. the problems in the region regarding vector-transmitted diseases, mainly dengue, yellow fever, leishmaniasis and Chagas, were exposed.
The course was attended by health agents from the hospital, Municipality referents and volunteer firefighters, as well as the National Park staff that has been working on the program “Prevention, the best solution" fostered by the Administration of National Parks since 2009.
