MALARIA CONTROL, PREVENTION AND RESEARCH PROGRAM

  • Artemisia Project

Artemisia annua agricultural production and method of artemisinin extraction for developing anti-malarial drugs.

Mundo Sano has engaged in a non-profit project in order to determine the technical and economical feasibility for the production of A. annua and artemisinin in Argentina. The aim of this project is to create a local, transparent, and cost-effective venture for the production of artemisinin, following at all stages the guidelines established by WHO.

In general terms, the project can be divided in two major fields of interest. On one hand, it aims to establish a system for the agronomic production of A. annua in Argentina; on the other, to implement a technically and economically sustainable method for the extraction of artemisinin at an industrial scale. In order to successfully accomplish the different stages of the project, Mundo Sano has signed a collaborative agreement with Centre de Recherches sur les Plantes Médicinales et Aromatiques (Mediplant) in Switzerland. Locally, Mundo Sano is also assisted by the following companies: Bioext, Garruchos, Mirolu, and Chemotecnica.
