ARGENTINIAN CONGRESS PASSES NEW LAW ON CHAGAS DISEASE

Federal sanitation policies on control and prevention of Chagas disease transmission through all means were declared of "national interest" and categorized as a priority matter, according to the law published in the Official Bulletin.

Law 26,281 enacted on August 8 2007 by the National Congress and promulgated at the beginning of September 2007 sets out that the Executive Power "must develop policies of intervention allowing to provide preventive and treatment-related answers to environmental, labor, health, educational, housing and habitat issues" to prevent Chagas disease. Article 1 of said law states: "Be declared of national interest and be considered as a priority matter within the Ministry of Health's national policy framework the prevention and control of all transmissible forms of Chagas disease". Additionally, it is stated that the sanitary measures to be implemented should be directed to the "definitive eradication of the disease in the national territory".
