As part of a cooperative agreement with the City Council, Añatuya will be subject to an second round of intensive fumigation in order to control the proliferation of this dangerous vector.
This is the third stage of the "Vinchuca ? Free Neighbourhoods" Project, and will include the spraying of 1,492 households in the districts of El Triángulo, Villa Abregú, San Cayetano, Sportivo, Villa María, Colonia San Francisco, Colonia Osvaldo, La Leñera, San Jorge, and surroundings.
As part of a larger project that started in 2002, Mundo Sano has now decided to carry out a new round of fumigation in all households within these quarters, in order to keep a better control on the sanitary status of the city. Spraying has already begun at Colonia San Francisco, since this area has shown the highest indices of infestation in the past.
This procedure, which will be completed by September of this year, is expected to create a sanitary barrier around the city. This should allow to enter a final stage of the project that will consist of taking a closer look at the sanitary status within the urban centre of Añatuya, and to collect statistically significant data.
On the other hand, and once that "vichuca" infestation is under control, Mundo Sano expects to carry out a serological enquiry in collaboration with the "Province Programme for Chagas", in order to identify and treat Chagas infected children in the area.
